(DWTD's) Top Ten Albums of 2014

DWTD's Top Ten Full Lengths of 2014

This is a list of the ten LP's that caught my eyes the most and have had on repeat and out unique in my opinion.

#10

Artist: Cardio Kazan
Album: The Baralax
Genre: Progressive Post-Hardcore
Label: Unsigned

Why:

This album is amazing because its not traditional in the sense at all. These guys mixed so much into one album that its just a free for all really. It was well played, well mastered, well everything was dam perfect. Its one unique find in the scene where a post-hardcore band can put this much into one record.

#9

Artist: Slaves
Album: Through Art We Are All Equals
Genre: Post-Hardcore
Label: Artery Recordings

Why:

Im completely biased when it comes to Jonny Craig. Hes an amazing singer and i love his work. This album pretty much solidifies that hes an amazing singer. Not just him but the band he has behind him does a dam amazing job as well. Album is a great listen.

#8

Artist: At the Gates
Album: At War With Reality
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
Label: Century Media Records

Why:

People might hate me for putting this lower on my top ten but im just not that into genres like this nowadays compared to core music. But dam the fact these guys came back was fantastic. They made a huge comeback too. This album proves that the guys (one of the godfathers of melo death metal) are alive and kicking. Been an 14 years since their last release so they had to comeback strong which they did. If u like melodic death this is a monster you have to listen to.

#7

Artist: Into Infernus
Album: The End of Eden
Genre: Symphonic Death Metal/Deathcore
Label: Hallowed Records

Why:

Symphonic brilliance is Into Infernus in a nut shell. Their last release came out last year and it was an amazing blend of orchestral and symphonic genres. Their records always make you feel like u should be watching them making a play based of their tunes. Seriously i was listening to this in full and i was picturing them performing in a theatre.

#6

Artist: Wovenwar
Album: Self-Titled
Genre: Metalcore
Label: Metal Blade Records

Why:

After finding out that Tim Lambesis hired a hitman to kill his wife and all that drama we were all worried that As I Lay Dying would be done and gone. They are... But from out of nowhere the other band members decided lets hire another singer and make a new band. Here comes Shane Blay of Oh, Sleeper and these guys destroyed. Its literally everything you love about AILD but you have cleans now. Dam does Shane doe a fucking brilliant job as vocalist. Album was long too 15 songs of metalcorey goodness.

#5

Artist: Polyphia
Album: Muse
Genre: Instrumental/Progressive Metal
Label: Unsigned

Why:

Im usually one who stays away from Instrumental stuff usually because its boring without vocals. But there are a few records that just draw you in. Polyphia was one that just blew me away. Instrumentals are boring at all in this. Each song has its own feel to it and sound but at the same time sounds similar to each other. Has a slew of guest musicians too.

#4

Artist: Conquering Dystopia
Album: Self-Titled
Genre: Instrumental/Death/Progressive Metal
Label: Unsigned

Why:

Heres another Instrumental that made my list. Featuring members of Cannibal Corpse, The Faceless, Arch Enemy. Some still might be in them most arn't. Comes a death metal instrumental masterpiece. Polyphia was a happy like Instrumental prog album this one is basically a death metal instruemental orchestra album. Shit is balls to the wall crazy.

#3

Artist: Ne Obliviscaris
Album: Citadel
Genre: Atmospheric Death Metal
Label: Season of Mist Records

Why:

This band is one of those one of a kind bands for me. I rarely listen to stuff like this. But Ne Obliv is just wow. Album's Instrumentation is magnificent. Its otherworldly. Has tons of atmosphere and ambiance. If more black metal bands were like these guys id listen to the genre more.

#2

Artist: Fallujah
Album: The Flesh Prevails
Genre: Technical Death Metal
Label: Unique Leader Records

Why:

First of all. I love everything this band does. I have their last record physical and i preordered this motherfucker because i wanted it so bad. I wasnt dissapointed at all with this release. This record would have been my #1 If it wasnt for the fact my #1 was listened to way more. Anyways, this album is technically beautiful the bands instrumentation is spot on as usual. Ive seen these guys live a few times so i know they can preform this. Usually why i love em.

#1

Artist: Being As An Ocean
Album: How We Both Wonderously Perish
Genre: Melodic Hardcore
Label: InVogue Records

Why:

This record is the best album this year for me. Lyrically, Instrumentally, Perfomance wise. Each song in its own is beautiful. Originally i kinda ignored them. Their debut was boring to me. After i tried this i couldnt stop listening to it. I get sucked in. It might be because they got the Ex clean singer of The Elijah in the band now. That or maybe how the lyrics are so god dam meaningful. This is a perfect example of how an album should be written. #1 album of 2014 for sure.
